Bruno Monsaingeon is a French musician, director and writer, born in 1943. Although he kept his activity as a violinist, he has devoted himself, the past 30 years, to filming profiles and/or performances for some of the greatest musicians of our times, such as Yehudi Menuhin, Glenn Gould, Sviatoslav Richter, David Oïstrakh, Piotr Anderszewski, Grigory Sokolov, among many others. His long partnership with Menuhin and Gould gave rise to several films, two of which were internationally acclaimed – The Open Wall, Menuhin in China and The Goldberg Variations (the third tome of the Glenn Gould plays Bach series). Some more highlights in his career include his portriats of soprano Julia Varady (Song of Passion), maestro Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (Autumn Journey), and also Richter, the Enigma and Glenn Gould, hereafter. He has written several books, particularly a three-volume set containing Gould’s entire literary production (Le dernier Puritain, Contrepoint à la ligne and Non, je ne suis pas du tout un excentrique), plus Richter, Écrits et conversations and Mademoiselle (conversations with Nadia Boulanger).
