American Pastoral

Based on Philip Roth’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Ewan McGregor’s feature directorial debut portraits a time of great upheaval and its lacerating effect on a seemingly ideal American family during the 60s. A hard working man watches his seemingly perfect middle class life fall apart as his daughter's new radical political affiliation threatens to destroy their family.

Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor, born in Scotland, is one of the most renowned actor of his generation. In 1994, he made his great debut with the film Shallow Grave, directed by Danny Boyle with whom, two years later, he worked with in his next feature Trainspotting, a film that became a brand, the latter of which brought him to the public's attention. From 1999 onward, he became part of the cast in the first three Star Wars episodes. In the beginning of the 21st century, he founded a production company called Natural Nylon, hoping it would make innovative films that do not conform to Hollywood standards. He was awarded Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2013 Queen's New Year’s Honours List for his services to drama and charity. He makes his directorial debut this year with American Pastoral, screened for the first time at the Toronto Film Festival.
