Malik El Djebena is a young Frenchman of Algerian origin sentenced to six years in prison. At the age of 19, illiterate, he appears to be the youngest and most fragile of all the inmates, and he quickly falls into the hands of a group of Corsican inmates, who dominate and control everything that goes on in the prison.


Jacques Audiard manages to transport the viewer into Malik's intimacy, to the point of having the impression of sharing a cell with him. The further we get in the film, the more we realize the character's ambiguity and cunning. Maybe he's not as much of a victim as he wants to make it out to be...
