November 1975. The beginning of French radical left-wing militant Pierre Goldman’s second trial. During his first trial, Goldman had received a life sentence after being convicted of four armed robberies, two of which had allegedly resulted in the deaths of two people. Now, as he declares himself innocent on this second count, the trial becomes a cause célèbre that reflects the political, ideological and racial tensions that have characterised 1970s Europe. Evasive and provocative, Goldman contributes to the polarizing character of a case that divided France and widened the gap between the intellectual left and the conservative right.
