In 1928 Paris, a young painter in vogue finds himself unable to work following the death of his wife, a situation that particularly worries his gallery owner, who has a financial stake in his artistic output. One night, while drunk, the painter attempts to make contact with his late wife’s spirit through a psychic; the results prove successful, even though the medium is, in reality, nothing more than a carnival worker.
