Tanushree Das
Born in Barrackpore, Calcutta, in 1980, Tanushree Das began her career as a theatre actress and director. She holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Calcutta and, in 2011, completed a Film Editing course at the Film and Television Institute of India. Since then, she has worked as an editor with renowned directors in India and on various documentary and fiction projects as a gaffer and sound technician. Shadowbox, presented at this edition of LEFFEST, is his first feature-length film as a director, alongside Saumyananda Sahi, to whom he is married. Together they founded the production company Skreen Films.
Saumyananda Sahi
Born in 1986 in the city of Bangalore, India, Saumyananda Sahi studied Philosophy at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi before enrolling at the Film and Television Institute of India. With the exception of the documentary Small Things, Big Things (2014), which he wrote and directed, he has devoted his career to cinematography, working on productions screened in Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Locarno and Rotterdam. On the small screen, he was the director of photography for the Netflix miniseries Trial by Fire (2023) and stood out in the same role for All That Breathes (HBO), a film nominated for the Oscars and BAFTAs in the Best Documentary category and winner of the Golden Eye in Cannes, also dedicated to documentary cinema. Shadowbox, presented at this edition of LEFFEST, is his first feature-length fiction film as a director, alongside Tanushree Das, to whom he is married. Together they founded the production company Skreen Films.
