In 1913, Wilhelm Uhde, German art collector, rents a house in inland France to escape the turmoil of Paris. To take care of the house, he hires Séraphine, a 48-year-old uneducated woman. One day, he finds out she paints in her spare time and sees gret talent in her paintings. An unlikely and tumultuous relationship unfolds between them, as Séraphine, emotionally unstable, enters the world of art and gains success and fortune. Based on the life of the great naïf painter Séraphine de Senlis.
