Recordações da Casa Amarela was the film that earned João César Monteiro international prestige, by winning the Silver Lion at the Venice Festival, in 1989. The film also allowed us to meet the João de Deus character, a pathetic alter-ego for the director, who became the most far-fetched protagonist of his comedies. This story is precisely about João de Deus. In Lisbon, in 1989, João de Deus lived in a room on a cheap family guest house in the old riverfront part of the city. One day, after a little problem, João de Deus is evicted.
