Orphea

The legendary Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice is here twisted into a reinvented contemporary version by German cinema innovator Alexander Kluge in his collaboration with scriptwriter Khavn. Through an experimental approach, the story switches the heroes’ gender so that, this time, it is Orphea, a woman, that descends into the underworld to save her lover Euridiko. Measured to the rhythm of rock music and set in the slums of Manila, its mythological weight is paired with an aesthetically avant-gardien take on issues of immigration and xenophobia.
