The Rye Horn

Illa de Arousa, 1971. Maria is a woman who earns a living harvesting shellfish. She is also known on the island for helping other women in childbirth with special dedication and care. After an unexpected event, she is forced to flee using one of the smugglers' routes between Galicia and Portugal, setting out on a dangerous journey that will make her fight for her survival. Winner of the Golden Seashell at the San Sebastián Film Festival, The Rye Horn is a tale about freedom, female solidarity and bodily autonomy.

Jaione Camborda

Born in 1983, Jaione Camborda is a Basque screenwriter and film director. After completing her studies at the The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) and the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF), she moved to Galicia where she founded the production company Esnatu Zinema and started working as a director, gaigning recognition with films such as Proba de axilidade (2015), Nimbos (2015), Lilit (2015) and Wild Mane Crop (2017)

In 2019 she scripted and directed her first feature film Arima, which won the Award for Best Direction at Seville European Film Festival New Waves Section and Best Film at the Márgenes Film Festival Scanner Section. Jaione collaborated as a screenwriter in Os fenómenos (2014) and Ons (2020) directed by Alfonso Zarauza, and has worked as art director on several feature films. Her second feature The Rye Horn (2023) was awarded the Golden Seashell at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
