Set in South Central Los Angeles in the early 1980s, My Brother’s Wedding follows Pierce Mundy, a young man adrift, caught between his family’s expectations and the neighbourhood life. While his brother, an upwardly mobile lawyer, prepares to marry, Pierce reluctantly agrees to serve as best man. In his second feature, Charles Burnett adopts a lighter tone to portray a young man and a community shaped by stagnation, resignation, resistance and joie de vivre. A classic of the L.A. Rebellion movement.
