In the year 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a psychologist, her brother, her husband and a fourth man who investigates a criminal network find themselves caught up in a complex family plot as their stories unfold. Each of them is confronted with their fears and the judgement they pass and receive from others, in an extraordinary global context that has put individuals and communities to the test. Taking on the constraints of the historical period in question, MMXX marks Cristi Puiu's return to a reflection on the human condition, this time against the backdrop of the collective drama, discourse, paraphernalia and lifestyle that marked the pandemic era.
