Saroo, a 5-year-old indian boy, gets lost in the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometers from his home town. He wanders on the streets until he is taken by a government orphanage. When an Australian couple adopts him, Saroo is taken to live with this new family in Hobart, Tasmania. Years later, when he leaves this island as an Australian young man, Saroo begins to wonder what became of his first home and the family he adored. Ingeniously using satellite images from Google Earth, he finds a lead to follow up on. But the search for his past threatens to overwhelm his present, and he finds himself further adrift than he ever imagined possible.
