Cinemax Screening – Short Films by Ana Rocha de Sousa

Laundriness is a compassionate observation of the everyday lives of customers of a launderette in Bethnal Green, London. With the tumbling sound of the washing machines in the background and the soapy smell evoked by the freshly cleaned clothes, this documentary gives a glimpse into the characters that come and go into the establishment, as Serif, the manager, serves cups of tea and listens to their stories. The film was selected to compete at the Short Film Corner in Cannes, marking the director’s breakthrough recognition in the prestigious and wider circles of the film world. The film will have its first theatrical run at LEFFEST’20.
