Bernardo Bertolucci, the Italian screenwriter and director whose films are known for their colourful visual style, was born in Parma, Italy, in 1940. He attended Rome University and became famous as a poet. His films include The Conformist, Last Tango in Paris, 1900, The Last Emperor, The Sheltering Sky, Stealing Beauty and The Dreamers.
