In the Cut

This melancholy and slow-burn thriller puts Meg Ryan (who plays Frannie, a creative writing professor) in a more starkly erotic type of role that defies the expectations of an audience more accustomed to seeing her as the queen of romantic comedies. When she begins a torrid love affair with a detective (played by Mark Ruffalo) who investigates a series of seemingly intertwined murders, after serving as an occasional witness, Frannie gradually grows suspicious as more crimes occur and the investigation continues, asking herself whether the serial killer isn't actually someone she knows – perhaps even her new scorching lover...
