Fumar/não Fumar

In a small English village, Celia cleans her house and, during a break, she hesitates on whether to smoke a cigarette. This is the starting point of Resnais’s film, dividing in two segments: Smoking (146’) and Not Smoking (147’). An adaptation of the play Intimate Exchanges, this film dissects the lives of various characters (all of whom played by Sabine Azéma and Pierre Arditi), which are described in terms of what could or couldn’t have happened.
