Free, White & 21 is an honest and straightforward personal account of the realities of black women in a white world. In this short film, Howardena Pindel sits in front of the camera speaking up about several instances of racism experienced throughout various stages of her life. Created after a car accident that left the artist suffering from memory loss, the film evidences the importance of remembrance and visibility in an age that too easily conceals the voiceless. 40 years later, Pindell’s words still echo as strongly.
