Like Rithy Panh’s other works, Exile born from his experience during the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia in the 1970s. Through a series of symbolic scenes with an actor and a narration quoting figures such as Robespierre, Mao, and Lenin, Panh creates a poetic reflection on absence, solitude, and ideology, questioning the nature of revolution and humanity.
