Titled after an aphorism by Polish poet Stanisław Jerzy Lec, Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World blurs the boundaries between drama and comedy, employing a collage of literary references, social media interactions, and nods to the world of cinema. In this experimental and frenetic adventure, Radu Jude paints a critical portrait of modern Romania by following the story of an exhausted and precarious production assistant as she traverses the city of Bucharest in search of a cast to shoot a workplace safety advertisement. Winner of the Special Jury Prize at Locarno, this social satire addresses some of the most pressing contemporary themes, from the hypocrisy of big corporations to labour exploitation and online life through social networks.
