In this Turkish town, the month of May feels both warmer and more somber than in previous years. Despite their minor concerns and lives seemingly closed off to surprises, the townsfolk appear content. However, this tranquility is slightly disrupted by the arrival of Muzaffer, who has decided to film a movie in the town where he spent his childhood. Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s second feature-length film, Clouds of May is in a sense the “making-of” of the director’s first film and establishes the tension between drama and documentary that will become the hallmark of his work.
