Mixing reality with fiction, the Taviani brothers recreate, on the one hand, a part of the theatrical performance of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, with inmates from Rebibia prison; and, on the other hand, the process and rehearsals that allowed the performance of the show. The actors/prisoners emerge in their characters in such a way that their own stories blend in with the story they represent. The spectator is lulled by the stories, he also loses the notion of the limit that exists between reality and fiction.

“We tried to contrast the darkness of their life as convicts with the poetic force of the emotions Shakespeare evokes − friendship and betrayal, murder and the torment of difficult choices, the price of power and truth. To get to the bottom of a work like this, you have to look at yourself.”
