In 1993, a shepherd witnesses the destruction of his collective farm following the collapse of the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan’s independence. As he waits for the property he has worked on all his life to be fairly divided, the rapid intrusion of capitalism turns every sheep into a struggle. The film opens with a 13-minute long take, a drama about injustice, loss, and resilience, told with a moving and realistic narrative.
