In The Rules of the Game, Renoir uses the visual atmospheres of his father’s work (impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir) to reveal the complex intersected love stories of master and servants during an eventful weekend of hunting at the palace of marquis Robert de la Cheyniest (Marcel Dalio). Jean Renoir takes on, along with his position as the director, the role of the cruel Octave and surprising cast around him, dominated by the presences of Marcel Dalio, Nora Gregor and Julien Carrete.
