In the very heart of the Japanese mountains, the team of Ogawa Productions encounters a village still dealing with the trauma of global warfare and struggling for survival as the children flee for the cities. In this small village, they envision the whole history of Japan and so set out to record the personal and collective stories told by the villagers, including the ancient tales passed down from their ancestors, and to address the transformations brought about by the modernisation of the country. The film is a tribute to these people and one of the greatest films made by this film collective.
