The LEFFEST – Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival’17 presents An Essay for a Cartography, a play by Mónica Calle, at the Centro Cultural Olga Cadaval, in Sintra, on the 17th and 18th of November.
An Essay for a Cartography rose from the orchestra rehearsals of great conductors and from the movements of classical ballet. Without any musical or classical dance training, twelve actresses dance on their toes, play the violin and the cello. This emotional path, both individual and collective, imprinted by the enthusiasm and innocence of discovery, springs from a tour with Bertolt Brecht’s The Seven Deadly Sins, starting in 2014 in Lisbon and later extended to several parts of Portugal.
An “alternative cartography”, to which Mónica Calle returns, now in an updated version, after premiering at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, always with sold out sessions, seeking to reduce it to its essence, freeing it from all that might be superfluous or constitutes noise – the costumes and the words, and so reaching farther, in an overcoming attitude of resistance and courage, accompanied by Ravel’s Bolero.
