Medeia Nimas Cinema
Saturday, November 13th, after screening 17h30
LEFFEST organises a debate around the connection between the daily life of the Rom people, the social segregation suffered by its communities and flamenco. The debate follows the screening of Triana pura y pura (2013) by Ricardo Pachón, which recounts the moment in which Rom people were expelled from the Triana neighbourhood in Seville, during the fifties, and sent to live in the outskirts of the city, an event which destroyed a perfectly integrated community and forever changed the heritage of flamenco. The mythical bailaor Farruquito will speak to the audience about this heritage, following its development by the “elders” of Triana up until the new generation, and its relation to the persecution of flamenco Rom artists.
